- 'Possibly the Worst Stray Kids Concert' : What Happened at Stray Kids Washington DC Show
Alright babes, strap in because boy, do we have tea to spill. Monday, June 23rd, Stray Kids performed at Nationals Park Stadium in Washington, DC, as a part of the North American leg of their DominATE tour. Their show coincidentally happened to collide with one of the most extreme heat waves to hit the East Coast in years, and it seems everyone was feeling the effects of it. With multiple weeks' worth of heads up on the dangerous weather, you'd think the people putting on the tour, LiveNation, as well as the stadium, would be well prepared to take care of its concert-goers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. This is the 2025 Washington DC show of Stray Kids being called 'possibly the worst Stray Kids concert to date.' Who are Stray Kids, and what is the DominATE tour? Stray Kids, a 4th generation K-pop group, has skyrocketed in fame in the past few years, winning Billboard Awards, MTV Music Awards, a People's Choice Award, and even this past week, a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award. The group, consisting of 8 members - Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N., is in the middle of their third world tour and just finished their Washington, DC show on June 23rd. Initially announced on July 8th, 2024, the tour kicked off in Seoul, South Korea on August 24th, 2024, and is still going strong with two more shows left in the North American leg of the tour. The DC concert that took place at Nationals Park Stadium on June 23rd was far from the K-pop dream fans of Stray Kids [STAYS] thought they were getting, however. The issue going into the concert that was very apparent was the inevitable heat wave. It began hitting the East Coast over the weekend and is continuing through Tuesday, June 24th. Fans of the K-pop sensations have been preparing for this life-threatening heat wave for weeks, with many buying fans and cooling rags, stocking up on Liquid I.V., and making sure to hydrate well beforehand. In theory, all of these things combined leave fans in perfect health for the weather, but it doesn't seem like much could help when it came to beating this heat. The Downfall of DC's Concert Preconcert Besides the hellish heat hitting the city, the first sign of bad news was at the VIP soundcheck. Fans were offered a chance to see the boys before their main performance by purchasing the soundcheck VIP package. This package includes one premium reserved ticket, access to the pre-show soundcheck, and fun merchandise exclusives. Fans were told to begin queuing up at 3:30 pm and form a line; they did. That is, until the folks running the event decided to shut the gates in the faces of those still waiting to be let in at 5:08 pm. STAYS still in line were understandably confused and frustrated, but little to no explanation came about. Jas, @usernameisjas on TikTok, spoke out about her experience, saying, "They shut the gates like literally as we were about to go in. Right everyone? Everyone that's lined up is not gonna get in, even though we all paid for it." Users in her comments were quick to share Jas's frustration. One user wrote, "I'm disputing w my bank. I’m so f***ing mad," with another user pointing out the similarities between venues, "At this point, Stray Kids or JYP should take action against the venues absolutely dropping the ball. It would be different if it was like 1 or 2 venues, but ALL of them are royally f***ing it up and ruining this for so many fans." When time for the show started getting closer, fans who showed up at the suggested time of 5:30pm were shocked to find lines of people everywhere. Now, as common as this is for any large stadium concert, what didn't help was the lack of staff members to assist. Those who were on the field needed wristbands picked up before they could find their seats, but finding the specific gate to go to for this proved challenging for fans as there were three staff members passed in a mile long stretch. When asking the staff members who were there, one staff member said all lines went to the same place, one gave a specific spot to go towards, and another altogether said you did not need a wristband to enter the field. This miscommunication among the staff adds to the already overwhelming situation of dealing with the heat. Speaking of the heat, I guess we should go ahead and address the elephant in the room. Ahead of the concert, fans were lined up as early as 5 am Monday morning. Although the warm weather did not reach it's peak until 6PM, fans were waiting in a consistent heat index of 102 degrees all day. When you see concert-goers online say 'people were dropping like flies,' they really aren't lying. If staff outside the venue were small in numbers, the amount of medics you could find were nonexistent. One medic ran past a line and was heard saying, "I need a raise, I don't get paid enough for this." With lines remaining stagnant from lack of order and people running through their only water bottle they were allowed to bring, you could hear someone yelling for a medic every five minutes, and that's just the beginning. The Downfall of DC's Concert The concert By the time it came around for the concert to begin at 7:30 pm, Stray Kids were nowhere to be seen and neither were the hordes of fans still waiting in line outside. The concert itself didn't start until closer to 7:45 pm, presumably to give time for the remaining fans to find their seats, but this is unclear. Signs of struggle seemed to fade away for a quick moment once the boys took their places on stage. The crowd erupted into one entity screaming as loud as possible. By the middle of song one, you could see the sweat dripping off of Hyunjin's face and it was clear the boys were feeling the heat just as much as all STAYs throughout the crowd. The boys toughed through the weather though and gave us the show they knew we needed . As high energy as they were, you could tell they were really struggling the longer the show went on. Midway through the concert, the stadium completely ran out of not only water, but ice and Powerade too. The effect of this was devastating. The amount of people passing out seemed to have lessen once they got to their spots inside the stadium, but without anything to rehydrate, the fainting started back up in full force. One fan said she asked for a wheelchair for her friend, but the response given to her was one no one expected. A medic told her they had 30 people unconscious and little resources to provide. Stray Kids leader, Bang Chan, was the first to stop and say something. He stopped the show to ask fans in the pit to spread out and give each other more room. Once he realized fans had no water, he asked that more be brought out and passed out to the audience. Within seconds, staff with crates of water came out and passed around bottles. Over the course of the next few songs, members could be seen checking in on audience members while preforming and once the free bottles of water ran out, the members were seen handing out their own waters from the stage to those in need of it. So picture this, you've been struggling with 98 degree heat for hours now, but all is right in the world because Stray Kids are about to come back out onto the stage and preform their first encore for the evening and you are going to tough it out to dance with them... but they don't come back out. In fact, right before their first encore, an announcement rang out stating the concert would be ending early due to extreme weather and from there, lights flooded the stadium and everyone was ushered out at once. Some fans stated that they could see the boys quickly being whisked away on golf carts with many wondering if the heat had caused some of them to fall ill. When walking out of the venue, more fans could be seen passing out while trying to head home. The amount of people ill was enough cause for the Police Mass Casualty Task Force to be called out to assess the scene. We found out early morning Tuesday that six people were taken to the hospital for treatment. LiveNation- the real evil? The company behind organizing the tour for Stray Kids is LiveNation, one of the largest entertainment management companies. LiveNation has been in the news quite a lot recently ever since Netflix released a documentary titled, "Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy," an event where many fans passed away and even more had to be hospitalized. Astroworld was a festival put on by Travis Scott and LiveNation in 2021. The documentary examines what led to such tragedy and how some festival attendees who survived handled the situation. LiveNation was sued over this festival and it's poor planning, but it seems they learned very little. The stadium where the concert was held has also put out a statement Tuesday night saying, "Cooling centers and mist fans were available. Free water [was] in the pit area. Fans were allowed to bring in two sealed water bottles or empty ones to refill. Water filling stations were available." Unfortunately these claims by the stadium aren't completely true. Cooling centers had no signs and were not made aware to fans unless they were in the middle of a medical episode. The only two mist fans (that we are aware of) were on the second level behind the stage and staff members were forcing people to move and not crowd around them. Water was not made free until Bang Chan made it clear to the staff that people in the pit needed it desperately. Fans were only allowed to bring in one water bottle per an email sent out regarding the rules of the stadium beforehand and the water filling stations were not made aware of to fans until after the concert when the line was so long, fans were fainting while waiting. The Stray Kids concert in Washington DC has made history as the first Stray Kids show to be ended early. It seems the boys are blaming themselves for the situation and the poor planning, but many fans are quick to their defense. It seems the boys did not realize the lack of resources provided to fans and were worried for the safety of everyone. We want to thank the medics and staff who worked tirelessly to provide medical attention to those in need of it, Stray Kids for paying attention and caring for their fans, and STAYs for always having each others backs. In such a dangerous situation, the community of the fan base was felt and those who cared for each other are the true heroes here. *Unpaid Therapy was in attendance for this event. This is from our perspective of the concert as well as other fans who were in attendance.

- The Evolution of Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet Tour Looks
Things just got a whole lot sweeter- Her clothes are off, and she's coming over to your place *wink* Source: Sabrina Carpenter on Instagram Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet tour may be one of the best events to happen in our lifetime, period. Honestly, we could end the article there. The songs are great, the show put on for the audience is great, Sabrina Carpenter is great, but all of these things combined would be nothing... if it weren't for the outfits that have graced those stages. Who knew that three simple outfits would be all it took to alter the style brain chemistry of millions around the world and kickstart trends that even Pinterest couldn't have predicted? We've got corsets and baby dolls, we have cat suits, we have hologram two-pieces, and now, with the ironically named Short N' Sweet tour getting more dates added, the dream team -Sabrina and her stylist- have decided to scrap everything and start anew. So, let's walk you through the different looks we've gone through during this groundbreaking tour, see how we ended up here, and where we're heading style-wise with the Espresso singer's upcoming album, Man's Best Friend. Act I: Getting ready for the party Act I of the singer-songwriter's show begins with Sabrina emerging from a bathtub, covering herself with a towel. When she "realizes" she has nothing to wear, the audience gets a sneak peek of what's underneath the fluffy fabric. Miss Ma'am opens up her towel, revealing all of the sparkle that was locked inside. "Omg I have nothing to wear" bodysuit All of the looks for Act I are styled by custom Victoria's Secret. Sabrina wears a sparkly bodysuit, unique for each show, with matching garters and character shoes. The shoes adorned by the singer keep the focus completely on the star of the show- the corseted bodysuit. This opening has become one of the most anticipated moments of the concert, with many people attempting to guess what color bodysuit she'll be showing up in next. Sabrina explained in an interview with Vogue that the inspiration for these looks combined Bridget Bardot, the sleepover scene in Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, and Playboy: After Dark. She wanted the "living room scene" to feel like you were with the girls, getting ready for a night out. Act II: cocktail hour For Act II: the cocktail hour, Sabrina saunters down the grand staircase in a lacey catsuit with a feather draped across her chest. The feather snaps off the bodysuit, revealing two looks in one. Just like the corseted bodysuits, the feather is unique to each show, with the color alternating depending on what city they're performing in. Unlike the corseted bodysuits, this catsuit is built for movement. While she struggles to move around too much from the structured fit, the lacey catsuit allows Sabrina to handle the bulk of the dancing in the show during this Act. This is when we see high kicks, more involved dance movements, and some floor action. The way Sabrina describes this act is like pregaming- being a little tipsy, but not too crazy. The looks for this Act are completely custom by Patou, and we see the character shoes make a familiar return from Act I. Sabrina says the inspiration behind the slinky fit for Act II was completely Marilyn Monroe in No Business Like Show Business , and Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face . She wanted a very classic, minimal, sleek look that would wow her audience members in the front of the crowd, just as much as the fans in the nosebleeds. Act III: Party time, babes! Act III is when we get down and dirty. The fake sunset projected on the large screen behind the performers has set, and we've finally made it to the party! We see another two looks during this Act in another iconic moment by Sabrina and her performers. This infamous moment occurs during a skit when a random audience member appears to make the singer so flustered, her long skirt falls off, revealing a matching miniskirt underneath. It's giving Hologram realness... During her interview with Vogue , Sabrina lets viewers in on how they decided to incorporate the funny moment into the show. She explains that although the fabric looks flowy and light, it's an incredibly heavy material that makes moving around nearly impossible. She said that she couldn't be in the dense material for more than one song. Her team decided the best way to combat this issue would be to add a clip to the back of the maxi skirt, allowing it to pool at her feet on the floor in a funny moment with fans, helping her to move around in a more freeing miniskirt to finish the concert off. Act III's outfits are all made by Ludovic de Saint-Sernin. Regarding the inspiration that struck her for these looks, Sabrina explains to Vogue that she and her team came up with the idea after attending the ABBA Voyage show in London. "We went to the ABBA show... There was this one fabric that one of the girls was wearing. It was so gorgeous, and it was like liquidy." From that point on, she knew she needed this material to be incorporated into a look for the show. Add a little bit of... spice Did you think the outfit colors were the only details the Carpenter team thought of? Think again. Each show features different tights for the singer to wear, each with their own 'tattooed' lyric from different songs off her album. This is yet another easter egg that has fans in a frenzy, with many scouring the internet for dupes or making their own. A babydoll coverup is brought out during Act I- again, unique to each show, and always matching her bodysuit. Sabrina has said she feels the most confident in a babydoll, not worrying about how she looks or what angles she may be viewed from. The babydoll motif was introduced back when Sabrina performed on SNL in 2024 and has stayed with us ever since. "What can we do for the girls, and then comes 'how can we round this out and make this feel so unique?'" Another unique easter egg for each show involves the mugs the singer/songwriter brings out. Custom-made, these mugs wear a kiss from the singer next to the name of the city she's performing in, making the show feel a little more personal to concert-goers. And last but absolutely not least, we have Miss Sabrina's iconic shoes. I mean, look at them. First, gorgeous. Second, iconic. The character shoes worn in Act I and II have been known to alternate phrases on the bottoms, but are most prominently known for having "Mother F****er" displayed for the world to see. It's a nod to her hit song, " Please, Please, Please. " As iconic as that whole moment is, Act III is when we see classic Brina with her signature boots. Embellished with her trademark heart, the colored outline for the symbol gets switched out each show and alternates between the middle being filled in or left open. These are just the little details that help make the Short N' Sweet shows massive hits, making fans come back for more each time. Act I gets an update As we enter Sabrina's Man's Best Friend era, we're starting to see a shift in the tour outfits. On June 8th, she debuted a completely new wardrobe for Acts I, II, and III. I see someone is a fan of F1. In Act I, Sabrina wears a long-sleeve, zip-up bodysuit that is absolutely full of sparkle and introduces her name across her chest, just in case anyone forgot it mid-show. Instead of her usual bombshell curls, we see her with a more kinky style of curls that give the illusion of a perm. The shoes have also made a switch-up amid the chaos. Instead of Act I and II having character shoes, Sabrina now wears her boots during Act I (and they aren't platforms! That's wild!) . The Catsuit Upgrade The sexy, longed-for catsuit from Act II has gotten an upgrade as well! No longer a sweetheart neckline, this halter catsuit underwent a minimal change that has had a major impact on its image. It's a stunning piece! Along with the change to the neckline, Sabrina's team had to figure out a way to reincorporate a unique, 'changes each show' element to the design. That's where the fluffy sash comes in. With no more feather boas to lean on, the singer now comes out with a fur sash draped around her upper body, the ribbon of the sash being the detail that changes colors each show. She's coming for your gig, Abba Adore Delano once bravely stood up and said, " Party. " This is exactly how Act III's outfit upgrade should be described. No longer looking like any ol' hologram, but as if she walked out of a computer itself and then into a pool of water, Miss Carpenter has yet again proven why she should be in control of fashion's latest trends (she already... kind've... is). The liquidy material got renewed for a 2nd season. The shimmering cowl neck dress has a matching bra and shoes that change colors each night. It's a good representation of us moving on from the 60's sleepover scenes, to matching Manchild 's vibes of the 1970's and disco parties. In an Instagram live the singer had done, she teased the inspiration behind Man's Best Friend , saying they took inspirations from Donna Summer, Dolly Parton, and ABBA. Discussing the progression of her shows and outfits, Sabrina stated, "I could have stretched out Short N' Sweet much, much longer, but I'm at the point in my life where I'm like, 'wait a second,...there's no rules.'" Sabrina's Short N' Sweet tour may not be over, with dates for the Short N' Sweet: It's Even Sweeter! tour running through November 23rd, but the era of Short N' Sweet 's 60s vibes seem to be transitioning into something new, something disco, something.....party. In an interview with Vogue last year, Sabrina's stylist, Jared Ellner describes the singer by saying, "She has such a good idea of like, who she is- in the best way, in an amazing way." - E.L.F.'s 'Legal' Claims Result in Consumers Boycotting
Move over, Sydney Sweeney, there's a new 'WTF is going on' in town. Another prominent brand has just flushed away its consumer base's trust overnight after the release of a very poorly timed and very poorly thought-out commercial. Why, you may ask? Because 'Why the E.L.F. not?' E.L.F. Cosmetics, known for being affordable and for the people, has been in hot water this week after releasing a commercial featuring comedian Matt Rife and drag queen icon Heidi N Closet playing lawyers. The commercial was aiming to say, ' We'll always stay affordable for the people ,' but really ended up spitting on women everywhere, saying, ' Hey, wouldn't it be funny if we got a misogynistic comedian that's only known for his domestic violence jokes? ' The beauty brand shared the campaign on Aug 11, and almost immediately, things began taking a turn for the worse. What happened? The 'Affordable Beauty Attorneys' video takes place at the fictional " Law Offices of e.l.f.ino & Schmarnes," where we see two 'beauty attorneys,' Rife and Closet, talk about going to "e.l.f. court for millions of clients, helping them to access beauty products they deserve at prices that won’t injure their livelihoods." The commercial acts as a spoof of the real-life New York law firm, Cellino & Barnes, and their iconic commercials from the 1990s and 2000s. “I know a thing or two about red flags. And pricey makeup? You deserve better than that,” Rife's character says. The ad ends with the lawyer duo asking viewers to report “beauty injustices” by calling 1-855-COLD-HARD-LASH. Within minutes of the campaign's release, fans were outraged and saddened by the appearance of one controversial Matt Rife as a partner in the firm. Rife, who has previously sparked backlash and outrage over his domestic violence jokes from his debut Netflix special, has yet to comment on this miss by E.L.F. cosmetics. “Oooooh. Matt Rife? The guy who jokes about DV? In an ad targeted to women? That’s, um. A choice.” Wait, why don't we like Matt Rife? Matt Rife, 29, is a comedian who rose to fame after his stand-up comedy sets went viral on TikTok in 2022. At the time, he was famous for his crowd work, but every now and then, he would rub people the wrong way with some poorly thought quips. As with comedy (and everything in the entertainment industry), you have to take risks if you want to see results. Rife decided he was going to use his 2023 debut Netflix special, "Natural Selection," to take the risk that will likely follow him for his whole career. He opens the special with a joke on domestic violence, retelling a story of the time he visited a "ratchet" restaurant in Baltimore, and the female server had a black eye. He goes on to wonder about why the establishment wouldn't keep the server in the kitchen to keep her injury out of sight of the customers. His audience at the time was largely female, and this seemed to trouble the comedian. In an interview with Variety , Rife states, "And that's one thing that I wanted to tackle in this special was showing people that, like, despite what you think about me online, I don't pander my career to women." He goes on to defend his joke by explaining how his special is catering more to men. "Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn’t have that black eye," he quipped. "I figure if we start the show with domestic violence, the rest of the show should be smooth sailing." Following the backlash of his special, the comedian took to his Instagram story to post a fake apology, writing, "If you’ve ever been offended by a joke I’ve told, here’s a link to my official apology." The link attached led you to a website that sold "special needs helmets." His damage control following all of this controversy only led to more, each time Rife's defense came back to 'I appreciate women for giving me a platform, but my comedy's not for you. It's for men.' At Dawn, We Strike Since the release of E.L.F.'s new campaign, people everywhere have decided that enough is enough. With the beauty brand being mainly targeted to women, the brand's fans were left confused. Even if we push past the misogynistic jokes Rife loves and holds so dearly, fans argue, unlike his co-star Heidi N Closet, Matt Rife has nothing to do with makeup or beauty. One commenter underneath the campaign's video on YouTube wrote, " Elf Cosmetics says on their "elf cares" site that elf stands for empowering legendary females while also simultaneously hiring someone who makes light of DV. You can't claim diversity and feeling safe and inclusion while also wasting your marketing budget." Another commenter simply writes, "So… Rife was the only one y’all could get?" E.L.F.'s global chief marketing officer, Kory Marchisott o, responded to the campaign's backlash by saying, “There is a big gap between our intention and how this missed the mark for some people … We always aim to deliver positivity, and this one didn’t. So we find ourselves in a position where, quite honestly, that doesn’t feel good for us.” The backlash has been fierce for the brand, with calls to boycott coming from not just everyday fans, but influencers who have worked with E.L.F. prior. Videos have been popping up all over social media of creators throwing out their entire E.L.F. collection or just explaining their disappointment in the creative move by the brand. On Aug 15, E.L.F. released a statement on its Instagram account, offering an apology to beauty fans worldwide. “You know us, we’re always listening and we’ve heard you. This campaign aimed to humorously spotlight beauty injustice. We understand we missed the mark with people we care about in our e.l.f. community. While e.l.f.ino & schmarnes closes today, we'll continue to make the case against overpriced beauty." Fans were quick to point out the irony in this statement, as the brand has also caught some heat for raising its prices on products due to inflation. Hard to make a case against overpriced beauty when a skin tint from an 'affordable' drug store brand costs $18. One comment in response to the apology read, "‘Missed the mark’ is a pretty loose way of saying ‘we intentionally alienated our audience by hiring a man who torpedoed his career by alienating his audience," with others calling the brand tone deaf and the apology meaningless after E.L.F. decided to leave the campaign up on all socials. This rage-baiting by the brand may have gotten them engagement, but it's doubtful they intended a full boycott. We're already seeing the effects of the loss of fans as AInvest reports a 2.7% drop in shares and a 22.5% drop in trading volume to rank 444th in market activity. It's too soon to tell if 'The Affordable Beauty Attorneys' will cost the company to lose a significant amount of profit, but one thing is clear. It's going to take a whole lotta elbow grease for E.L.F. Beauty to win back its consumers.
- July's Icon- @Vanillamace
Everyone's Newest Obsession has a name: VanillaMACE Source: @vanillamace on Instagram The self-proclaimed "girl who doesn't shut up," Vanillamace, truly does it all. A style icon, model, DJ dabbler, digital content creator, retired dancer, and Twitch streamer, here at Unpaid Therapy, we ask: Is there anything she can't do?! Source: @vanillamace on Instagram Emily, better known as Vanillamace on her socials, has been absolutely blowing up everywhere. She's gone from celebrating her 1 million follower mark on TikTok in May 2025 to celebrating 3 million followers a month later. Vanilla has been posting seriously for a year now, but it's only recently that she's been skyrocketing on the charts. This rise to fame can all be traced down to one... single... video. On April 14th, 2025, Vanillamace posted a video to her TikTok in an incident we're calling- The Christmas Tree of Pain and Despair. Inspired by her description of the video, "The Popmart trip of unimaginable pain and despair," this Christmas tree incident quickly rose in popularity for Miss Vanilla, sitting at 15.1 million views at the time of posting this article. She's had more popular videos previously, but this was the one that seemed to catch viewers' attention and make her everyone's newest addiction. In the video, Vanilla goes to Popmart in the hopes of finding some blind boxes to sink her teeth into. She ends up leaving with her new purchases and immediately heads to her car to tear them open. As she's showing us the options for the SkullPanda blind box, Vanilla states, "I'll be happy with any of them except that f***a** Christmas tree. I don't like that one." The universe really does have a wicked sense of humor, because wouldn't you know it? She pulled none other than her very own darling Christmas tree. Viewers are left laughing as she looks off in misery and eventually begins to rage in frustration over the prize. After a long rant, Vanilla decides to head back into the store for another blind box, not yet satisfied with her pull. Now back in her car, she stresses about what her new prize will be from the new box, adding, "But it's okay, what are the odds I get the same one twice?" Cue the audio clip, "It was in this moment she knew, she f-ed up." Little Miss Christmas tree decides to make yet another appearance, and Vanilla ends the video after a long silence. This TikTok drew people in with the promise of a blind box, a trendy obsession many have had for a few years now, and by the time viewers finished the video, they were hooked deep by Vanilla's relatable reactions, her humor, and her charm. Many in the comments related to her disappointment and poked fun at her luck with one reading, "Please don't buy a lottery ticket." Since this dark day in Vanilla's life, she's continued to grow her fanbase on numerous platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch. Her main platform, surprisingly, is Twitch, where she streams every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6 PM EST. Although her audience on there isn't quite as large as her TikTok, she enjoys streaming herself playing games and communicating with her audience through that medium. Vanilla is quickly becoming everyone's bestie, with many comparing her to one of YouTube's finest and dearly missed creators, Jenna Marbles. With the internet so chock-full of pristine, seemingly perfect creators, Vanilla is a huge breath of fresh air. Her relatability and personality are so refreshing; it's no wonder we've all fallen in love with her. Vanilla's Socials: Twitch YouTube Instagram TikTok
- Doechii's Hitting the Road: Everything We Know About the Icon Herself and Her Tour
Even Gaga is obsessed, so why wouldn't we be? 'When all else fails, trust yourself' is something Grammy winner Doechii lives by. The American rapper, singer, and songwriter has skyrocketed in fame over the past year for her viral appearances and quirky style, but the one moment that seemed to change everything for her? Her Grammy performance from February, where she not only proved to herself that she's a star, but she proved to the entire world that she's someone who isn't going off your radar anytime soon. Performing most of the production in a jockstrap, Doechii blew away viewers with her performance of Denial is a River and Catfish, showing her fans that she's here for the long haul. Mother Gaga- Lady Gaga, if you're formal- expressed her admiration for Doechii in an email to Vogue, writing, “You don’t often see someone come out of the gate with a pen that feels immediately legendary. That’s Doechii to me. I fell in love with her music and her raw, deeply personal perspective. The power in her words, her vulnerability, the way she rhymes with this wild mix of audacity and emotional precision – it struck me to the core.” Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, better known by her stage name Doechii, was raised in sunny Tampa, Florida, and has known music for as long as she can remember. Her dad and uncle were both former rappers, and her mom, Celesia, encouraged all her children to follow their dreams, despite the limitations the family faced. This led to Doechii and her sisters pursuing a mix of activities such as ballet, tap dancing, cheerleading, acting, and even marching band. When asked about her heroes in life, Doechii simply credits her mother. After hitting a rough patch of bullying in her school years, Doechii decided it was time for a change. Picked on relentlessly for being dark-skinned, shy, and being herself, she considered suicide as a way out before realizing how far gone she was. No longer would she let people dictate her life, how she sees herself. While journaling in her diary soon after this, a voice came to her: "I am Doechii." The birth of her alter-ego. The beginning of it all. "I was born to do this." Throughout all of her challenges and triumphs, one thing remained clear. Doechii knows who she is, and her big sister energy really shows. She's real, honest, and there for you when you need her. Her vlogs ( come on, YouTube queen ) have been left up on YouTube just in the small chance one of her fans needs her on a particularly rough day. She even spoke directly to those needing some inspiration in her Grammy acceptance speech, saying, " Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you, that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark, or that you’re not smart enough, or that you’re too dramatic, or you’re too loud. You are exactly who you need to be to be right where you are, and I am a testimony.” This right here is what makes Doechii a star . She's not just a Grammy winner, she's a symbol for being true to yourself and not apologizing for it. On to today's breaking news ( more like 1 week old news), Doechii has announced she is going on her first headlining tour, "Live From the Swamp," produced by LiveNation. This 12-city North American tour kicks off in Chicago on October 14th and ends in Seattle on November 10th. The announcement comes directly after Doechii's debut at Lollapalooza, where she finished her set by driving off in an albino alligator wrapped car. Before this, fans began speculating about a big announcement as giant albino alligators -the mascot for her bestie, Coconut the alligator- suddenly made appearances at landmarks across the country. 'Live From the Swamp' tickets are now available on Ticketmaster. Tue Oct 14 – Chicago, IL – Aragon Ballroom Fri Oct 17 – Toronto, ON – Coca Cola Coliseum Sun Oct 19 – Boston, MA – MGM Music Hall Tue Oct 21 – Washington, DC – The Anthem Thu Oct 23 – Charlotte, NC – Bojangles Coliseum Mon Oct 27 – Atlanta, GA – Coca Cola Roxy Wed Oct 29 – Dallas, TX – Toyota Music Factory Fri Oct 31 – Houston, TX – 713 Music Hall Mon Nov 03 – Phoenix, AZ – Arizona Financial Theatre Wed Nov 05 – San Diego, CA – Gallagher Square Fri Nov 07 – San Francisco, CA – Bill Graham Civic Auditorium Mon Nov 10 – Seattle, WA – WAMU Theater She has also announced dates to perform in Australia for the first time, making her Spilt Milk Festival debut!
- Trend Alert: Renaissance Revival Core
It's always let's stay in, and never let's run through a field barefoot in our nicest nightgown 2025 has been the year of many things. From Sabrina Carpenter reading our inner thoughts on men with her new song, Manchild, to Jojo Siwa deciding to join Fletcher in shaking things up within the LGBTQ+ world, this year has taken us places we were absolutely not expecting. We've had twists and turns from every which way, but the one element that has remained consistent is the upsurge in a particular style of fashion: Renaissance Revival. You may be asking yourself, "What is she going on about?" but trust. We may not be seeing giant pointed damsel hats or suits of armor walking the streets of NYC to go get brunch on a daily basis. Still, if you look closely at the elements that make up today's trending attire, there is a huge rise in pieces that are inspired by the revival period of the 1970s and the romance period of the 18th century. We can trace a clear link to this revival period back to 2024. Specifically, we can track this down to a distinct moment in time- Chappell Roan's VMA performance in September 2024. Source: Getty Images Genesis Webb, the stylist for Chappell's performance, even gave us some insight into this new trend in fashion by stating, "But [fashion's] going in a new direction. I feel like people are pulling out. I feel like designers and houses are also moving in a direction, too, and showing theater on the runway. Even in the next two seasons, I feel like we’re going to get some really incredible shows and pieces...Camp is back. It makes fashion not a niche, gatekept secret." She also elaborates on the thought process behind both of Chappell's iconic looks for the VMAs, explaining that the looks and the entire performance were intended to showcase power through femininity. Following the performance of the year, Pinterest went on to release its 2025 Pinterest Predicts in November of 2024. Among the many topics of the year lay two major trends: Rocco Revival and CastleCore, both of which tie into this Renaissance revival we've been seeing. Pinterest predicted an uptick in gothic-inspired and ultra-feminine fashion among Gen Z and millennials, and as of now, they are scary accurate. Ultra fem elements Light, flowy fabrics Source: Getty Images, Bella Hadid, Pinterest Perfect for the summer, lightweight fabrics are in . Reminiscent of those nightgowns the rich damsel wears in every period movie you were obsessed with growing up, light, flowy fabrics are an it-girl staple for 2025. Think Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl . There's a carefree sense to those wearing these fabrics that leaves us with an impression of the wearer being both effortless and stylish. We're mostly seeing these airy fabrics in dresses, but they extend to linen pants, tops, and the occasional skirt. Cotton Source: Pinterest, Sabrina Carpenter via Instagram Tying in with the previous flowy fabrics, cotton is becoming a staple in everyone's closets. Linen seems to be taking a backseat when it comes to this classic, all-organic material. When you search cotton gowns or cotton bloomers, typically you'll see examples of Renaissance-era garments, perfect for achieving realistic period piece get-ready-with-me's. Now modernize these examples, and it's starting to look a lot like what we're seeing our fav celebs wear nowadays. We're seeing a lot of people opt for an all-cotton look for their summer fits, great for looking chic, not so great for hiding sweat stains- you have been warned . "Bubble"+ Puff Trousers Source: Pinterest, Kelsey Plum What screams androgynous clothing more than one of King Louis XIV's favorite types of pants? Bloomers may have had their comeback already in the 1910s for bicycling and evening wear, then altered in the 1980s (by none other than MC Hammer), but they are back with a vengeance. You can wear them casually, you can dress them up, you can wear them to bed! The opportunities are truly endless, which can explain why trendsetters everywhere are bringing these timeless trousers back to life. Satin Source: Sabrina Carpenter via Instagram, Pedro Pascal Satin has had its time in the limelight for a few years now. I mean, it is kind of the definition of a timeless fabric, but this summer, we're seeing it be worn in tandem with other trending add-ons, such as lace trim, mini scarves, and ornate beading. Pedro Pascal was recently seen in a polkadot, satin button-up paired with a matching mini scarf, and crowds everywhere went wild . There's something about a man who's not afraid to embrace the more "feminine" elements of fashion, such as satin or even a mini scarf, that really makes them feel more masculine. Satin's known for its luxurious appearance and versatility; it's a no-brainer as to why it's been around for so long. It can easily adapt to the fashion climate of each season and settle in nicely. Gothic Elements "Armor" inspired accessories Source: Pinterest The rise in armor-like jewelry was on a steady climb long before Chappell performed at the VMAs in late 2024, but it is her performance that put the accessories on our radar. There has been a huge incline in popularity for bangles, specifically stainless steel bracelets. This armored appearance seems to stand behind women taking back their femininity, just like Chappell in her performance. We're seeing a resurgence of unique, textured designs within jewelry, not just bracelets. It seems the norm nowadays is maximalizing your lowkey outfits with accessories to elevate them. Whether dressing down or up, accessories are being worn as a badge of honor, and our take? YES YES YES. Corsets Source: Olivia Rodrigo via Instagram, Pinterest Like satin, corsets have been around forever now. It seems they're being elevated, though, brought to a new standard that doesn't just accentuate the body, but adds to it. We're seeing corsets with unique embellishments, designs, and shapes- often adding a drop waist effect to the outfit. The design of these tops has gotten so interesting; in fact, many of them are now being made to appear molded to the body, fitted perfectly to the wearer's figure with a more customized look and feel. One could argue, "Okay, this feels very mermaidcore." Why yes, you're right, but I'd argue it adds just as much whimsy to castlecore in the modern take on what women's armor may look like in today's day and age of high-fashion. Frills + Lace Source: Pinterest, W Magazine Adding to nearly every trend on this list, frills and lace are prevalent everywhere this season. We're seeing them on dresses, on pants, on socks! They're spreading faster than we can manage, but we're embracing it wholeheartedly. They add a whimsical, ethereal touch to outfits, creating that feminine feeling while adding a gothic element to your looks. Again, we have to add, King Louis XIV would've loved this. Source: Pinterest, Julia Fox via Instagram, Pinterest Both touches of frills and lace remind us of the romantic period, showing us the beauty in the details, the romance, and the dark femininity in each design. We're seeing these details being worn as statement pieces, like lace pants with a simple tee, as a way of showing artistic expression and uniqueness in each fit. Trust when we say you will be the talk of the village quickly with these romantic pieces. Dramatic Silhouettes Source: Jenna Ortega via Instagram, Cardi B via Instagram, British Vogue, Pinterest What screams medieval, kingdom, Renaissance core more than over-the-top, dramatic AF silhouettes? We're seeing designers use more unique shapes in their designs, many feeling biblical, and many others feeling like a tribute to Queen Elizabeth I. This trend feels less like in-your-face accentuating the body, and more like expressing art through a fashionista's POV. Shoulders are a big hit among the latest and greatest in fashion, and surprisingly, rounded, power hips (Check out the Alaïa Fall 2025 collection for visuals).
- Billie Wants to Make Bush-kini's a 2025 Staple
That's right, we're showing body positivity in a whole new light, babes Personal care brand Billie partnered with celeb favorite, LA-based jewelry company Ian Charms, to take its first step into the world of fashion. Launching in 2017, Billie has always been body positive, never straying from their key message of "[undoing] the unfair social pressures women face, starting with double standards around shaving and body care, and [celebrating] the infinite ways women can look, feel, and be in the world." And this new collaboration with Ian Charms is no exception. In a statement by Lisa Sahakian, founder and chief executive officer of Ian Charms, she stated, "Partnering with Billie felt like the perfect fun collab for summer — we both believe in bold, unapologetic self-expression." Released June 24, Billie took their first baby steps into the world of fashion by releasing a limited edition, bush-inclusive two-piece swimsuit with custom bikini charms. Coming in 3 different colors- pink, purple, and green- these bikinis come with their own special bush-positive charm message and all for $145 USD. From "Bushkini" to "I <3 fuzz," these bikinis are aimed at promoting body positivity through these cheeky catchphrases, encouraging women to embrace all of themselves. The release comes at a time when we're seeing a rise in wild manes finding their way into avant-garde designs as designers experiment with real human hair. We saw this with designer Dilara Findikoglu and her human hair top, while designer Schiaparelli designed human hair ties. Need more examples? Think Julia Fox at the 2025 Vanity Fair afterparty. Some may see this collaboration as odd, but it makes sense for Billie to put this out there. They've always been very big on body positivity and making women feel good in their bodies; the next step would be swimsuits that do both things. Defending the collaboration in an article by WWD, Kaleigh Werner explains, "The idea is not necessarily to entice women to grow out their hair down there, but to erase the negative connotation from people who do, which is exactly what Billie has been working toward since its initial launch." The Billie x Ian Charms bikini and bathing suit charm is now available on Ian Charms website.

"little miss maximalist" May 22nd via Instagram Our icon of the month for this lovely Pride season is a goddess in every sense of the word. You may have seen her in content for brands such as I.AM .GIA, Princess Polly, or Dollskill. Not only is she known for her renowned OOTD videos and her creative sense of style, but her personality, confidence, and body positivity have been hitting the internet like a tidal wave. Here at Unpaid Therapy, we are LIVING for it! This month’s icon is none other than @JadeyBird . Jade, more commonly known as JadeyBird on Instagram and TikTok, is a content creator that has been steadily rising in popularity in the past few years, growing from 8,000 followers on Instagram in 2023 to now nearly 700,000 as of June 2025 . Her unique style captivates her audiences while her GRWM chats keep us hooked till the very end. According to her website, JADEFIONA.INFO , Jade’s content focuses on “lifestyle content & midsized fashion.” She states, “I love stepping outside the box with my style to send a message that you don't need to be a size 2 to wear what you want (and look good doing it!).” And confidence Miss Jade is SERVING. She is succeeding in breaking the stigma in mid-size/plus size fashion, helping her fans feel confident in being their true authentic selves. We want to celebrate with Miss Jadeybird this pride as on March 1st, Jade announced in a GRWM TikTok, that she is off the market. While applying concealer, discussing her plans for the day, she says, “Speaking of not wanting to be perceived by men, I got a girlfriend this week,” before breaking out in a fit of giggles. Jade then discussed the reaction to her “coming out” post. Regarding the post of her hard launching her relationship, she stated many of her fans poked fun at her. “‘Fork found in kitchen’, ‘Pretends to be shocked,’ ‘Babe, I fear the closet was made of glass,’ and I’m like ohhh, okay,” Jade says. Since this coming out post, Jade has posted with her girlfriend looking happy as ever. We want to wish her and her partner all the love this pride season and hope to see her continue to thrive.
