  • Trend Alert: Renaissance Revival Core

It's always let's stay in, and never let's run through a field barefoot in our nicest nightgown 2025 has been the year of many things. From Sabrina Carpenter reading our inner thoughts on men with her new song, Manchild, to Jojo Siwa deciding to join Fletcher in shaking things up within the LGBTQ+ world, this year has taken us places we were absolutely not expecting. We've had twists and turns from every which way, but the one element that has remained consistent is the upsurge in a particular style of fashion: Renaissance Revival. You may be asking yourself, "What is she going on about?" but trust. We may not be seeing giant pointed damsel hats or suits of armor walking the streets of NYC to go get brunch on a daily basis. Still, if you look closely at the elements that make up today's trending attire, there is a huge rise in pieces that are inspired by the revival period of the 1970s and the romance period of the 18th century. We can trace a clear link to this revival period back to 2024. Specifically, we can track this down to a distinct moment in time- Chappell Roan's VMA performance in September 2024. Source: Getty Images Genesis Webb, the stylist for Chappell's performance, even gave us some insight into this new trend in fashion by stating, "But [fashion's] going in a new direction. I feel like people are pulling out. I feel like designers and houses are also moving in a direction, too, and showing theater on the runway. Even in the next two seasons, I feel like we’re going to get some really incredible shows and pieces...Camp is back. It makes fashion not a niche, gatekept secret." She also elaborates on the thought process behind both of Chappell's iconic looks for the VMAs, explaining that the looks and the entire performance were intended to showcase power through femininity. Following the performance of the year, Pinterest went on to release its 2025 Pinterest Predicts in November of 2024. Among the many topics of the year lay two major trends: Rocco Revival and CastleCore, both of which tie into this Renaissance revival we've been seeing. Pinterest predicted an uptick in gothic-inspired and ultra-feminine fashion among Gen Z and millennials, and as of now, they are scary accurate. Ultra fem elements Light, flowy fabrics Source: Getty Images, Bella Hadid, Pinterest Perfect for the summer, lightweight fabrics are in . Reminiscent of those nightgowns the rich damsel wears in every period movie you were obsessed with growing up, light, flowy fabrics are an it-girl staple for 2025. Think Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl . There's a carefree sense to those wearing these fabrics that leaves us with an impression of the wearer being both effortless and stylish. We're mostly seeing these airy fabrics in dresses, but they extend to linen pants, tops, and the occasional skirt. Cotton Source: Pinterest, Sabrina Carpenter via Instagram Tying in with the previous flowy fabrics, cotton is becoming a staple in everyone's closets. Linen seems to be taking a backseat when it comes to this classic, all-organic material. When you search cotton gowns or cotton bloomers, typically you'll see examples of Renaissance-era garments, perfect for achieving realistic period piece get-ready-with-me's. Now modernize these examples, and it's starting to look a lot like what we're seeing our fav celebs wear nowadays. We're seeing a lot of people opt for an all-cotton look for their summer fits, great for looking chic, not so great for hiding sweat stains- you have been warned . "Bubble"+ Puff Trousers Source: Pinterest, Kelsey Plum What screams androgynous clothing more than one of King Louis XIV's favorite types of pants? Bloomers may have had their comeback already in the 1910s for bicycling and evening wear, then altered in the 1980s (by none other than MC Hammer), but they are back with a vengeance. You can wear them casually, you can dress them up, you can wear them to bed! The opportunities are truly endless, which can explain why trendsetters everywhere are bringing these timeless trousers back to life. Satin Source: Sabrina Carpenter via Instagram, Pedro Pascal Satin has had its time in the limelight for a few years now. I mean, it is kind of the definition of a timeless fabric, but this summer, we're seeing it be worn in tandem with other trending add-ons, such as lace trim, mini scarves, and ornate beading. Pedro Pascal was recently seen in a polkadot, satin button-up paired with a matching mini scarf, and crowds everywhere went wild . There's something about a man who's not afraid to embrace the more "feminine" elements of fashion, such as satin or even a mini scarf, that really makes them feel more masculine. Satin's known for its luxurious appearance and versatility; it's a no-brainer as to why it's been around for so long. It can easily adapt to the fashion climate of each season and settle in nicely. Gothic Elements "Armor" inspired accessories Source: Pinterest The rise in armor-like jewelry was on a steady climb long before Chappell performed at the VMAs in late 2024, but it is her performance that put the accessories on our radar. There has been a huge incline in popularity for bangles, specifically stainless steel bracelets. This armored appearance seems to stand behind women taking back their femininity, just like Chappell in her performance. We're seeing a resurgence of unique, textured designs within jewelry, not just bracelets. It seems the norm nowadays is maximalizing your lowkey outfits with accessories to elevate them. Whether dressing down or up, accessories are being worn as a badge of honor, and our take? YES YES YES. Corsets Source: Olivia Rodrigo via Instagram, Pinterest Like satin, corsets have been around forever now. It seems they're being elevated, though, brought to a new standard that doesn't just accentuate the body, but adds to it. We're seeing corsets with unique embellishments, designs, and shapes- often adding a drop waist effect to the outfit. The design of these tops has gotten so interesting; in fact, many of them are now being made to appear molded to the body, fitted perfectly to the wearer's figure with a more customized look and feel. One could argue, "Okay, this feels very mermaidcore." Why yes, you're right, but I'd argue it adds just as much whimsy to castlecore in the modern take on what women's armor may look like in today's day and age of high-fashion. Frills + Lace Source: Pinterest, W Magazine Adding to nearly every trend on this list, frills and lace are prevalent everywhere this season. We're seeing them on dresses, on pants, on socks! They're spreading faster than we can manage, but we're embracing it wholeheartedly. They add a whimsical, ethereal touch to outfits, creating that feminine feeling while adding a gothic element to your looks. Again, we have to add, King Louis XIV would've loved this. Source: Pinterest, Julia Fox via Instagram, Pinterest Both touches of frills and lace remind us of the romantic period, showing us the beauty in the details, the romance, and the dark femininity in each design. We're seeing these details being worn as statement pieces, like lace pants with a simple tee, as a way of showing artistic expression and uniqueness in each fit. Trust when we say you will be the talk of the village quickly with these romantic pieces. Dramatic Silhouettes Source: Jenna Ortega via Instagram, Cardi B via Instagram, British Vogue, Pinterest What screams medieval, kingdom, Renaissance core more than over-the-top, dramatic AF silhouettes? We're seeing designers use more unique shapes in their designs, many feeling biblical, and many others feeling like a tribute to Queen Elizabeth I. This trend feels less like in-your-face accentuating the body, and more like expressing art through a fashionista's POV. Shoulders are a big hit among the latest and greatest in fashion, and surprisingly, rounded, power hips (Check out the Alaïa Fall 2025 collection for visuals).

  • The Evolution of Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet Tour Looks

Things just got a whole lot sweeter- Her clothes are off, and she's coming over to your place *wink* Source: Sabrina Carpenter on Instagram Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet tour may be one of the best events to happen in our lifetime, period. Honestly, we could end the article there. The songs are great, the show put on for the audience is great, Sabrina Carpenter is great, but all of these things combined would be nothing... if it weren't for the outfits that have graced those stages. Who knew that three simple outfits would be all it took to alter the style brain chemistry of millions around the world and kickstart trends that even Pinterest couldn't have predicted? We've got corsets and baby dolls, we have cat suits, we have hologram two-pieces, and now, with the ironically named Short N' Sweet tour getting more dates added, the dream team -Sabrina and her stylist- have decided to scrap everything and start anew. So, let's walk you through the different looks we've gone through during this groundbreaking tour, see how we ended up here, and where we're heading style-wise with the Espresso singer's upcoming album, Man's Best Friend. Act I: Getting ready for the party Act I of the singer-songwriter's show begins with Sabrina emerging from a bathtub, covering herself with a towel. When she "realizes" she has nothing to wear, the audience gets a sneak peek of what's underneath the fluffy fabric. Miss Ma'am opens up her towel, revealing all of the sparkle that was locked inside. "Omg I have nothing to wear" bodysuit All of the looks for Act I are styled by custom Victoria's Secret. Sabrina wears a sparkly bodysuit, unique for each show, with matching garters and character shoes. The shoes adorned by the singer keep the focus completely on the star of the show- the corseted bodysuit. This opening has become one of the most anticipated moments of the concert, with many people attempting to guess what color bodysuit she'll be showing up in next. Sabrina explained in an interview with Vogue that the inspiration for these looks combined Bridget Bardot, the sleepover scene in Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, and Playboy: After Dark. She wanted the "living room scene" to feel like you were with the girls, getting ready for a night out. Act II: cocktail hour For Act II: the cocktail hour, Sabrina saunters down the grand staircase in a lacey catsuit with a feather draped across her chest. The feather snaps off the bodysuit, revealing two looks in one. Just like the corseted bodysuits, the feather is unique to each show, with the color alternating depending on what city they're performing in. Unlike the corseted bodysuits, this catsuit is built for movement. While she struggles to move around too much from the structured fit, the lacey catsuit allows Sabrina to handle the bulk of the dancing in the show during this Act. This is when we see high kicks, more involved dance movements, and some floor action. The way Sabrina describes this act is like pregaming- being a little tipsy, but not too crazy. The looks for this Act are completely custom by Patou, and we see the character shoes make a familiar return from Act I. Sabrina says the inspiration behind the slinky fit for Act II was completely Marilyn Monroe in No Business Like Show Business , and Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face . She wanted a very classic, minimal, sleek look that would wow her audience members in the front of the crowd, just as much as the fans in the nosebleeds. Act III: Party time, babes! Act III is when we get down and dirty. The fake sunset projected on the large screen behind the performers has set, and we've finally made it to the party! We see another two looks during this Act in another iconic moment by Sabrina and her performers. This infamous moment occurs during a skit when a random audience member appears to make the singer so flustered, her long skirt falls off, revealing a matching miniskirt underneath. It's giving Hologram realness... During her interview with Vogue , Sabrina lets viewers in on how they decided to incorporate the funny moment into the show. She explains that although the fabric looks flowy and light, it's an incredibly heavy material that makes moving around nearly impossible. She said that she couldn't be in the dense material for more than one song. Her team decided the best way to combat this issue would be to add a clip to the back of the maxi skirt, allowing it to pool at her feet on the floor in a funny moment with fans, helping her to move around in a more freeing miniskirt to finish the concert off. Act III's outfits are all made by Ludovic de Saint-Sernin. Regarding the inspiration that struck her for these looks, Sabrina explains to Vogue that she and her team came up with the idea after attending the ABBA Voyage show in London. "We went to the ABBA show... There was this one fabric that one of the girls was wearing. It was so gorgeous, and it was like liquidy." From that point on, she knew she needed this material to be incorporated into a look for the show. Add a little bit of... spice Did you think the outfit colors were the only details the Carpenter team thought of? Think again. Each show features different tights for the singer to wear, each with their own 'tattooed' lyric from different songs off her album. This is yet another easter egg that has fans in a frenzy, with many scouring the internet for dupes or making their own. A babydoll coverup is brought out during Act I- again, unique to each show, and always matching her bodysuit. Sabrina has said she feels the most confident in a babydoll, not worrying about how she looks or what angles she may be viewed from. The babydoll motif was introduced back when Sabrina performed on SNL in 2024 and has stayed with us ever since. "What can we do for the girls, and then comes 'how can we round this out and make this feel so unique?'" Another unique easter egg for each show involves the mugs the singer/songwriter brings out. Custom-made, these mugs wear a kiss from the singer next to the name of the city she's performing in, making the show feel a little more personal to concert-goers. And last but absolutely not least, we have Miss Sabrina's iconic shoes. I mean, look at them. First, gorgeous. Second, iconic. The character shoes worn in Act I and II have been known to alternate phrases on the bottoms, but are most prominently known for having "Mother F****er" displayed for the world to see. It's a nod to her hit song, " Please, Please, Please. " As iconic as that whole moment is, Act III is when we see classic Brina with her signature boots. Embellished with her trademark heart, the colored outline for the symbol gets switched out each show and alternates between the middle being filled in or left open. These are just the little details that help make the Short N' Sweet shows massive hits, making fans come back for more each time. Act I gets an update As we enter Sabrina's Man's Best Friend era, we're starting to see a shift in the tour outfits. On June 8th, she debuted a completely new wardrobe for Acts I, II, and III. I see someone is a fan of F1. In Act I, Sabrina wears a long-sleeve, zip-up bodysuit that is absolutely full  of sparkle and introduces her name across her chest, just in case anyone forgot it mid-show. Instead of her usual bombshell curls, we see her with a more kinky style of curls that give the illusion of a perm. The shoes have also made a switch-up amid the chaos. Instead of Act I and II having character shoes, Sabrina now wears her boots during Act I (and they aren't platforms! That's wild!) . The Catsuit Upgrade The sexy, longed-for catsuit from Act II has gotten an upgrade as well! No longer a sweetheart neckline, this halter catsuit underwent a minimal change that has had a major impact on its image. It's a stunning piece! Along with the change to the neckline, Sabrina's team had to figure out a way to reincorporate a unique, 'changes each show' element to the design. That's where the fluffy sash comes in. With no more feather boas to lean on, the singer now comes out with a fur sash draped around her upper body, the ribbon of the sash being the detail that changes colors each show. She's coming for your gig, Abba Adore Delano once bravely stood up and said, " Party. " This is exactly how Act III's outfit upgrade should be described. No longer looking like any ol' hologram, but as if she walked out of a computer itself and then into a pool of water, Miss Carpenter has yet again proven why she should be in control of fashion's latest trends (she already... kind've... is). The liquidy material got renewed for a 2nd season. The shimmering cowl neck dress has a matching bra and shoes that change colors each night. It's a good representation of us moving on from the 60's sleepover scenes, to matching Manchild 's vibes of the 1970's and disco parties. In an Instagram live the singer had done, she teased the inspiration behind Man's Best Friend , saying they took inspirations from Donna Summer, Dolly Parton, and ABBA. Discussing the progression of her shows and outfits, Sabrina stated, "I could have stretched out Short N' Sweet much, much longer, but I'm at the point in my life where I'm like, 'wait a second,...there's no rules.'" Sabrina's Short N' Sweet tour may not be over, with dates for the Short N' Sweet: It's Even Sweeter! tour running through November 23rd, but the era of Short N' Sweet 's 60s vibes seem to be transitioning into something new, something disco, something.....party. In an interview with Vogue last year, Sabrina's stylist, Jared Ellner describes the singer by saying, "She has such a good idea of like, who she is- in the best way, in an amazing way."
